Believers: How do you know your view of your chosen holy book is the correct one?
by punkofnice indon't start fighting, darlings.
i am genuinely curious.
after all i was a jobo 50 years and thought the wbt$ was 100% correct.. i ask this because i see that, for example, christian denominations (or whatever), likely have differing interpretations of the same writing.

Good question by the way.
I'm sure there are lot of believers that don't feel their view of the bible to be literal but allegorical in nature I think most Catholics are not taking the bible literally.
Only fundy groups take every thing the bible says literally as unquestioning Truth the word of god almighty that must be obeyed or meet with god's wrath.
Which brings to mind why would a supreme Being require belief in his existence and make it a matter of life or death,, me smells a over zealous bigot for his deity of choice, writing down these words in a text to strike fear into the reader and take over his mind with more bull shit to follow.

I suppose all this negativity towards college labels them a severe mind control cult. Because if it walks like a duck, and swims like a duck and quacks like a duck most likely it's a duck.

Gerrit Losch could get a lobotomy and no one would notice because of his severe brain shrinkage from constant indoctrination of the Watchtower corporation, that helped him move up to becoming a super brain dead Governing Body member. He equates getting a college education to putting a gun to your head and pulling the trigger.

These guys on the Governing Body are very simple minded and have a non intellectual view point of the Bible which is their bread and butter. So to have some of their dumbed down flock getting a education higher than standard free governmental school indoctrination,, they will lose these subservient drones.

William James (January 11, 1842 – August 26, 1910) was an American philosopher and psychologist who was also trained as a physician. The first educator to offer a psychology course in the United States,[3] James was one of the leading thinkers of the late nineteenth century and is believed by many to be one of the most influential philosophers the United States has ever produced, while others have labeled him the "Father of American psychology".[4][5][6]
Along with Charles Sanders Peirce and John Dewey, James is considered to be one of the major figures associated with the philosophical school known as pragmatism, and is also cited as one of the founders of functional psychology. A Review of General Psychology survey, published in 2002, ranked James as the 14th most cited psychologist of the 20th century.[7] He also developed the philosophical perspective known as radical empiricism. James' work has influenced intellectuals such as Émile Durkheim, W. E. B. Du Bois, Edmund Husserl, Bertrand Russell, Ludwig Wittgenstein, Hilary Putnam, and Richard Rorty,[8]

The Varieties of Religious Experience: A Study in Human Nature is a book by Harvard University psychologist and philosopher William James. It comprises his edited Gifford Lectures on natural theology, which were delivered at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland in 1901 and 1902. The lectures concerned the nature of religion and the neglect of science in the academic study of religion.
Soon after its publication, Varieties entered the Western canon of psychology and philosophy and has remained in print for over a century.
James later developed his philosophy of pragmatism. There are many overlapping ideas in Varieties and his 1907 book, Pragmatism.
